Thesis Project Orpheus and Eurydice

Convinced, that the art is not only entertainment, but a way to concern us with something, I have aimed not only at the good aesthetic result and in the delight of the beauty, but also at the viewer's challenge for inner search, choosing the ancient Greek myth "Orpheus and Eurydice", in which important teaching elements are presented.

Its full symbols thematology, makes us wonder, what we are doing at the present stage of our lives, what choices do we have and what we have done with them, and finally how far we can overcome ourselves for a higher purpose.

The present thesis comprises my own personal project, which starts with the visual performance of Christopher William Gluck's Opera Orpheus and Eurydice. The musical part that sounds is the Dance of the Blessed Spirits – Melody.

The symbols that take place to this myth are multiple. One of them, is the power of music, which softens and opens our hearts and brings us the harmony. The lyre of Orpheus expresses here that symbol, but also the notion of the harmonious union of the cosmic powers.

Another very important symbol, is Orpheus, or better his weakness, which symbolizes all our lost opportunities (love, friendships, happiness etc.), which we did let go away.

To make the work more joyful, as Gluck does in Orpheus and Eurydice, the Motion Graphic (from the song of Orpheus, which is drifted by the sea, to the shadows of the world of the dead, all of which are rendered with strings, ink, etc.), ends up in the light, symbolizing by this way, the capability and the hope for another opportunity.
